Nanotechnology is a rapidly growing area that is being expanded into many industries (Medical, Advanced Energy, Electronics, Glass coatings) for Sono-Tek. Typically nanocoatings are applied from liquids that contain nanoparticles in a suspension. These very small nanoparticles have a tendency to attract to one another causing an agglomeration of particles into a clump (several hundred nanoparticles clumped together). Often when nanoparticles are clumped together, the benefit of the particle being sub-micron sized is either eliminated or greatly reduced. Sono-Tek coating technology ultrasonically vibrates the solution containing the agglomerations, breaking them apart back into individual nanoparticles just prior to the application of the substrate being coated. The result of this is a more homogenous layer with greater uniformity and enhanced functional characteristics.
Our ultrasonic nozzles have proven success in nanotechnology applications such as spray drying, with unique benefits including deagglomeration of nanoparticles from aqueous solutions containing nanomaterials such as metal oxides and carbon nanotubes. Our systems are capable of producing a high yields of particles in the 150-300 nm range.
